Atlantec Enterprise Solutions is awarded U.S. Navy Contract with NGSS and HDW

Annapolis, MD - April 9, 2003. Atlantec Enterprise Solutions, an international consulting company specializing in interoperability solutions for engineering and production for shipbuilding, has received an SBIR Phase II contract from the U.S. Office of Naval Research. The project, entitled Connector Architecture for CAD and CAM Systems is a 24 month project totaling US$850,000.

Based on open standards, the Connector Architecture will streamline and simplify the information flow required to support production processes. It will also facilitate collaboration between shipyards, design agents, and subcontractors on navy and large commercial contracts.

As part of the project, Atlantec will develop two shipbuilding CAM applications. With Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (NGSS) Ingalls Operations and Sandia National Laboratories, Atlantec will develop and test a commercial version of AUTOGEN, an automated-robot-control system developed by Sandia. Working with Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) Kiel Germany, Atlantec plans to develop and demonstrate an automatic nesting module for shipbuilding.

"This project is a great opportunity for Atlantec to leverage our core competencies - engineering and production in shipbuilding," said Bryan Miller, President of Atlantec.

The SBIR Program, sponsored by various U.S. federal agencies is the largest source of early stage R&D funding in the U.S. for small, high tech companies. The goal of SBIR is to spawn product development for both defense and commercial applications.

Atlantec Enterprise Solutions provides consulting and software solutions to the global shipbuilding industry. The company has offices in Annapolis, MD and Hamburg, Germany.

alma CAM Systeme and Atlantec Enterprise Solutions sign Cooperation Agreement

Atlantec Enterprise Solutions will develop software interfaces and applications integrated with alma's nesting and robot welding solutions for shipbuilding customers worldwide.

Hamburg, GERMANY - January 14, 2003. alma CAM Systeme and Atlantec Enterprise Solutions have signed an agreement which enables Atlantec-es to integrate alma CAM products with shipbuilding CAD Systems.

As a first step under the agreement, Atlantec-es plans to work together with Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) to link the alma nesting solution with Tribon Mx and Catia V5. A nesting-control application will also be added to provide automatic nesting of parts created in shipbuilding applications such as Tribon.

This work is being funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research, as part of a project entitled "Connector Architecture for CAD and CAM Systems". Other participants are the U.S. shipyard Northrop Grumman Ingalls and Sandia National Laboratories. The goal of the project is to reduce implementation costs and provide greater flexibility in selecting CAD and CAM systems. Importantly, the connector architecture will also facilitate enterprise collaboration between shipyards, design agents and other subcontractors using different systems.

"The agreement with alma is an important step in Atlantec Enterprise Solutions' goal to develop partnerships with key suppliers to the shipbuilding industry. Vendor partnerships are basic to our business plan to provide solutions in the design-manufacturing area of shipbuilding," said Bryan J Miller, President of Atlantec-es.

"It is very interesting for alma group to work together with a partner in the shipbuilding industry, who is not only well known but also has a lot of experience in interface and management questions," said Markus Kempf, Technical Manager of alma Germany.

Tribon Solutions and Atlantec Enterprise Solutions sign Developer Co-operation Agreement

Atlantec Enterprise Solutions will develop new applications using the Tribon Developer's Toolkit to extend the solutions for Tribon shipbuilding customers world wide.

MALMÖ, SWEDEN - September 18, 2002. Tribon Solutions and Atlantec Enterprise Solutions have signed a Tribon Software Systems Developer Co-operation Agreement.

Atlantec Enterprise Solutions will use the Tribon Developer's Toolkit to develop additional functions in Tribon, e.g. for interfaces to ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), PDM (Product Data Management) and Document Management systems.

The Tribon Developer's Toolkit is a collection of tools allowing customers to develop their own application functions based on Tribon.

Tribon Vitesse makes it possible to develop programs for design automation according to the shipyards' own rules and with direct access to the Tribon Product Information Model (PIM). Tribon Vitesse can be applied from the smallest design standard to complete sections of ships thus reducing design man-hours and improving quality.

Tribon Production Data Interface (PDI) makes Tribon data available for customer specific needs. It is implemented as an Oracle database, in which various applications store selected Tribon data. PDI is specifically suited for the reuse of Tribon data in a planning or materials administration system.

Atlantec Enterprise Solutions wins Navy Contract with Electric Boat and HDW

Atlantec Enterprise Solutions, an international company specializing in interoperability software for shipbuilding, has received an SBIR award from the U.S. Office of Naval Research for its proposal entitled “Connector Architecture for CAD and CAM Systems”. In this project, Atlantec-es will work with Electric Boat Corporation in the US and Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG in Germany to develop an open connector architecture that decouples CAD and CAM software applications.

The solution promises to reduce software implementation costs and provide greater flexibility when selecting best of breed CAD and CAM systems.  It will also simplify and streamline the information infrastructure typically required to support shipyard design and production processes. Importantly, the connector architecture will also facilitate enterprise collaboration between shipyards, design agents and other subcontractors using different systems.

“This is a great opportunity for Atlantec Enterprise Solutions to work with two of the world’s leading shipbuilders. A project including a major U.S. naval shipbuilder like Electric Boat and HDW, a leading European shipyard, fits our business model of serving the global shipbuilding industry”, said Bryan Miller, President of Atlantec-es.

Atlantec-es will use its Topgallant™ information management system as the basis for the software to be developed in later stages of the project.  Topgallant is commercially installed at HDW and is being evaluated by several shipyards, including NASSCO in the U.S.

The SBIR Program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, is the largest source of early stage R&D funding for small, high-tech companies in the United States.  The goal of SBIR is to spawn product development for both defense and commercial applications. Participating companies retain the intellectual property rights to products developed under the program.

HDW purchases Topgallant™

As part of the implementation of SAP R/3 at the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft in Kiel, Germany, Atlantec Enterprise Solutions has been chosen to develop the link from the Tribon Hull shipbuilding software to R/3.

The link is to be developed in close cooperation with HDW’s own software house, NIS Norddeutsche Informations-Systeme GmbH. Using information extracted from Tribon, the Topgallant software supplied by Atlantec Enterprise Solutions will prepare data for the ERP system.

The Topgallant solution to be provided will support both the initial transfer of data shortly before the burning start of each block, as well as any subsequent changes to that block during production. Using interactive tools supplied with Topgallant, all data can be tracked, verified and, if required, modified independently of Tribon.

The Director of Organization and IT at HDW, Mr Jens Peters, says that HDW selected Atlantec Enterprise Solutions for this task because “…Atlantec´s Topgallant infrastructure combined with the extensive shipbuilding experience of the Atlantec crew allows us to build up an intelligent interface between Tribon Hull and our new R/3 system in a very  efficient and cost saving way ”.

The link to be provided by Topgallant will be used for all new construction programs in both the submarine and commercial shipbuilding departments at HDW. The software to be used at HDW includes the standard Topgallant infrastructure as well as customized adapters for Tribon and SAP R/3.
